GROWING

  • The Food Group Farm is located on the front lawn of our property in New Hope, MN. With the help of volunteers, we grow and harvest thousands of pounds of pesticide-free fresh produce each season to be donated to food shelf partners.

GLEANING

  • Fruits of The City works with backyard fruit tree owners and local orchards to glean excess fruit, such as apples and pears, and share the fresh produce with partner food shelves. Many volunteers are needed each autumn to help with the harvest.
  • Minneapolis Farmers Market Produce Rescue gives vendors a chance to donate excess fresh produce at the end of the market. Volunteers collect and package the donations, and we deliver it to partner food shelves.
  • Farm Gleaning helps local farmers find a home for their surplus produce. Teams of volunteers visit the farm to harvest and package fresh vegetables to bring back for distribution to food shelves.

Interested in making a difference in your community? Hold a themed food, household, or hygiene drive along with a volunteer packing event at the close of the drive at your own organization. The donations will be made with a specific theme in mind so that special kits or packages can be created with the donations at the volunteer packing event. This volunteer opportunity is perfect for faith communities, work teams, and youth groups. The packages or kits that your organization assembles will be distributed to EFN’s food shelf partners.

Over 200,000 children in the state of Minnesota live in food insecurity and do not always know if they will receive their next meal. The Sheridan Story’s purpose is to respond to this need by closing the weekend food gap between Friday and Monday, when children are not able to participate in the free or reduced meal programs at school.

We are an ever-growing network of weekend food programs, commonly called backpack programs, operating in multiple schools. Our organizational model is unique in that The Sheridan Story provides logistical expertise and project execution while leveraging community partnerships for funding and volunteers.

We work right here in Minnesota. Most of our work is in the Twin Cities area, but we work in greater Minnesota, as well!

One great way to support The Sheridan Story and raise awareness about the issue of child hunger in our community is through a food drive. Food drives are great service opportunities for offices, faith-based groups, boy scouts, girl scouts, school groups, sports teams and more.

Don’t worry – we make a food drive easy (and it’s fun)! We have lots of helpful tools to help you with your food drive!
