Volunteer at the Reading Tent
Read to a child at the reading tent and give away free books in the community.
Ages 14 and older can help. Dates are:
*June 19 & August 14 from 10:30-11:30am at the Orono Discovery Center
*July 25 and August 22 from 4:30-5:30pm at Dexter Park in Long Lake

Also we have a new basic needs closet that started at the high school that we will need donations for on an ongoing basis. But for this website are you looking more for active volunteer opportunities versus a need like that? Let me know your thoughts.

Volunteer at the Sprouts Community Garden
Help tend to the plots at the community garden in Maple Plain or donate gardening items. We need help weeding, mulching, harvesting produce.
Ages 14 and older can help.
Times vary based on volunteer availability.


Volunteer to Help Students in the SPARKS Program
Volunteers work with elementary and middle school students with a focus on reading, relationships and encouragement for completing homework. The program meets twice a week after school at two area churches.
Must be 15 years and older to help
*Monday & Wednesday from 3-5pm or 4-5pm
*Tuesday & Thursday from 3-5pm or 4-5pm

Volunteer to Mentor High School Students
Orono STRIVE is a program designed to pair community mentors with Orono high school students. The program focuses on motivating students to improve their performance, especially in the areas of attendance, attitude, GPA and participation.
*Once a month on the second Wednesday of the month from 11:45-1:00 with optional second meeting per month arranged with mentors.

Volunteer to Help Students in the STARS Program
Volunteers support teachers who are providing elementary students with extra academic support from 8-9am in the morning focusing on Math and/or reading.


Sponsor a Meal for our Mentoring Programs
Sponsor a meal for one of our mentoring programs that serves Orono students.

Provide Job Shadowing Opportunities
Allow a student interested in your profession to shadow you for a day to learn about your career.
